with varying platelet counts. Adenosine diphosphate, epinephrine, collagen, and thrombin were used as aggregating agents. Eighty-one % of the 62 studies were abnormal. The frequency of abnormal tests increased from those with normal hematocrits and platelet counts (75%) through to those with elevated hematocrits and platelet counts (100%). One hundred % of the studies in spent polycythemia vera were abnormal. Abnormal bleeding times and thrombohemorrhagic complications did not correlate with each other or with abnormal aggregation, hematocrits, or plate let counts. Repeat studies following therapy showed im provement in 10 of 13 patients. The incidence of abnormal aggregation in polycythemia vera is high; however, the significance of this finding in the pathogenesis of thrombosis and hemorrhage remains obscure.

متن کاملComplex Arterial and Venous Thrombosis in Polycythemia Vera: what Does Leukocytosis Predict?
Thromboembolic events represent the main cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with polycythemia vera. Leukocytosis has been identified as an important risk factor for development of vascular thrombosis. A 47-year-old woman with polycythemia vera presented with pain and swelling in her right calf. She was scheduled to receive anagrelide which was effective on polycythemia and thrombocyto...

BACKGROUND The detection of molecular and cytogenetic alterations is important for the diagnosis, prognosis and classification of myeloproliferative neoplasms. OBJECTIVES THE AIM OF THIS STUDY WAS TO DETECT THE FOLLOWING MUTATIONS: JAK2 V617F, JAK2 exon 12 and MPL W515K/L, besides chromosomal abnormalities. Furthermore, molecular and cytogenetic alterations were correlated with the leukocyte ...

Objective(s): Functional imaging presents a non-invasive process that may capture the hyper-metabolic nature of red bone marrow in myeloproliferative neoplasms, such as polycythemia vera (PV). Methods: This study analyzed the FDG-PET/CT scans (n=12) of six patients diagnosed with PV and six age-sex matched controls using a quantitative global analysis methodol...
